Guided Crime Reporting for Peace of Mind
My primary role in this school group project was User Interface Design but was also involved in other parts such as the initial contextual research and the synthesis of research.
The redesign aimed to enhance the app's user interface and processes to improve conversion rates. We focused on simplifying report creation, providing case status updates, and offering a seamless, reassuring reporting experience while reducing administrative work for the police department.

Context

Problem
Complex and outdated interface, which could be confusing for non tech-savvy users. There's an opportunity to improve the user experience by simplifying the reporting process and enhancing guidance for users unfamiliar with the system.

Insights from User Interviews (19 users)
After looking through reviews and exploring the app on our own, we conducted user interviews and managed to speak with 19 users. These 19 people were people who have reported a crime or lost & found before, either in person or online.

Insights from Competitive Analysis
The existing Police@SG app has over 20 e-services which were disorganised and unintuitive to navigate to. Also, online reporting of crimes is mainly done through filling in forms, thus, we decided to study the following two types of apps for our competitive analysis:

Further Improvements Post-Usability Testing & Outcomes of Revamp
We were pleased with the final User Interface, especially comparing to what it was before, and based on the comments from our users ‒ "Looks similar to other good government apps like Singpass, feels familiar, which makes me trust it more", "has all the features I would expect a police app to have", "app is clear and functions are very straightforward to use and easy to find on the homepage" and "forms are very efficient and comprehensive".
